no spoilers: these books showcase a really interesting, detailed, tightly plotted (SO TIGHTLY PLOTTED) world. at the beginning, it seems like a bit of a retread (dystopian world where nobility have magic and use it to hold the slave class down, members of slave class who have a bit of magic themselves rebel) but it’s SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. i have a few minor complaints (the shifting points-of-view were a bit jarring, the addition of new points-of-view was annoying at first although i understood why it was necessary) and one not-so-minor complaint (needs more ladies) but all in all it’s a great trilogy. also seriously the plotting is SO TIGHT it is unreal.
