So, this is a thing I’m doing, I guess!
The Lover’s Dictionary is a novel by David Levithan. It’s told nonlinearly through a series of dictionary definitions like the one above, a chronicle not only of the relationship between the narrator and his lover, but of love and relationships and the complications both of those things bring to life. Each definition tells a story in and of itself.
If you haven’t read it, you should! It’s a quick read! But you don’t have to have read it in order to participate in this fest.
1) Comment on this post with a letter!
2) I’ll respond to your comment with a definition taken at random from within that letter.
3) Write a ficlet, draw a picture, make a mix—create some sort of fanwork in response to that definition.
4) Comment in reply to your prompt with your fanwork either embedded in the comment or with a link to where it lives on own journal/tumblr/AO3/website.
5) If you want, comment again! For more information or to play along click here!
kait runs the best low-key fests, and i think this one is going to be a lot of fun so go check it out!

I know this is an old video, but at 1:47, Hank and John talk about Sherlock!!!! EEEEEEE!!!
I would like to talk about the second season of Sherlock, but there is still no legal way for me to see it here in the United States, so instead I’m having it slowly spoiled for me by tumblr fan art. Death by a thousand homoerotic watercolors.
I’m just reblogging this because “Death by a thousand homoerotic watercolors.” sounds like an excellent way to go.

CRUMBLEBREAD
This reminds me of Bakery Street. The adventures of Sherloaf Holmes and Johnnycake Wheatson, potrayed respectively by the actors Benedict Crumblebread and Martin Pieman.
Don’t forget Mycrust Holmes, Sherloaf’s brother.
Not to mention Detective Inspector Lestrudel over at Shortcake yard.
Often Sherloaf is thwarted by his nemesis, Moritarty, and his sidekick, Sebastian Meringue; but he always managed to pick up the breadcrumb trail and save the day!
The adventures they’ve had so far? A Study in Pie, The Blind Baker, The Great Génoise, and A Scandal in Bagelavia. Coming up soon: The Hound of the Bakewellville and The Reichenbach Fruitcake.
And have you met The Woman? Her name is Irene Puddingler, and she’s called ‘The Danishatrix’.

#sherlock #fandom #this post has single-handedly redeemed the sherlock fandom for all the dumb shit i read while tag trawling yesterday #and let me tell you #it was a LOT of dumb shit
What a contrast between them!
There really is. In the picture with Irene Sherlock isn’t looking at Irene. She may be “the woman,” but there isn’t enough there for her to have Sherlock’s undivided attention. Then look at the bottom picture. John has Sherlock’s complete attention. They’re standing on the couch and John has the look of a long suffering partner. They’re completely comfortable with each other. This contrast is yet further evidence that Sherlock and John are not so secretly married.
Not only is there no look between Sherlock and Irene, Sherlock kind of has that look of “Is this blind date over yet?” on his face.
the amount of rage i’m experiencing as a result of the above commentary is quite stunning. just. i want fandom to stop hating on female characters because “they get in the way of our ship(s)!” that’s all! i don’t think i’m asking for much.
so, santa, if you’re listening - see if you can make the above happen.
besides which, the correct response to someone hot and bad-ass “breaking up” your otp is always a threesome! god fandom, why do you have such a hard time with this?

If they had had an LJ kinkmeme in Victorian times, it wouldve been a billboard hidden in an inconspicuous London alleyway, with veiled figures pinning on pieces of paper with lewd suggetions for short stories written upon them.
And Oscar Wilde would’ve started a big scandal by walking into the alley proud and unveiled, surrounded by rentboys and pinning a up a sign that said in massive letters, “SHERLOCK HOLMES LIKES IT UP THE ARSE”.

With all the fandom auctions going on to aid Japan in their earthquake relief efforts, there’s a multitude of new fanworks bound to be produced, and a boatload of donations piling in. AND THAT’S AWESOME. There are all sorts of authors and artists offering their services for charity, and we give them two thumbs up and a big HELLS YEAH for that. Here, we’re doing something a little different.
The idea’s simple. Just comment with a list of fics you’ve always wanted from fandoms that get less attention, or ships and pairings that don’t get as much love. If someone can write 1k words about any of your fandoms/pairings, you donate $5 to the charity of their choice. Then you get your fic.
That’s it.
$5 = 1k words of your dream fic. There are some awesome, awesome prompts up in here for all sorts of fandoms. We need prompts, we need writers, so get your butts over here and have some fun. IT’S LIKE YULETIDE BUT ALSO AWESOME AND FOR A GOOD CAUSE.
