So, this is a thing I’m doing, I guess!
The Lover’s Dictionary is a novel by David Levithan. It’s told nonlinearly through a series of dictionary definitions like the one above, a chronicle not only of the relationship between the narrator and his lover, but of love and relationships and the complications both of those things bring to life. Each definition tells a story in and of itself.
If you haven’t read it, you should! It’s a quick read! But you don’t have to have read it in order to participate in this fest.
1) Comment on this post with a letter! 2) I’ll respond to your comment with a definition taken at random from within that letter. 3) Write a ficlet, draw a picture, make a mix—create some sort of fanwork in response to that definition. 4) Comment in reply to your prompt with your fanwork either embedded in the comment or with a link to where it lives on own journal/tumblr/AO3/website. 5) If you want, comment again!

kait runs the best low-key fests, and i think this one is going to be a lot of fun so go check it out!

The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan

reservation, n

There are times when I worry that I’ve already lost myself. That is, that my self is so inseparable from being with you that if we were to separate, I would no longer be. I save this thought for when I feel the darkest discontent. I never meant to depend so much on someone else.”

Guys. If you haven’t read this book already, what are you waiting for?

There are times when I’m alone and I think, this is it. This is actually the natural state. All I need are my thoughts and my small acts of creation and my ability to go or do whatever I want to go or do. I am myself, and that is the point. Pairing is a social construction. It is by no means necessary for everyone to do it. Maybe I’m better like this.
